How do you recharge?

How we manage our energy is so important across every area of our life. We all recharge differently, but we sometimes don’t appreciate this because of misplaced perceptions.

Society tends to associate recharging with activities like hot baths, long walks and lazing by the pool (high energy sports are usually excluded from these lists).

The reality is that some people recharge by slowing things down while other people recharge by turning things up. But we can still feel conflicted about a particular activity because of how it’s perceived.

You may love skydiving, but are conflicted because you feel you should be “taking things easy”. Or you may love sleeping in, but are conflicted because you’re not “seizing the day”.

Here is a helpful way to remove this internal conflict. Classify activities as “energy gaining” or “energy draining”. It doesn’t matter how an activity is perceived by society. It only matters whether it gives you the energy you need.

Once you’re clear on this, it’s easy to choose activities that charge your energy and avoid activities that drain your energy.
