Communication is a two way exchange. Without confirmation between the sender and the receiver, how can both sides be sure that the right action will be taken?
And yet confirming a message isn’t typically our default.
As the sender of a message, you may feel that it’s impolite to ask the receiver to repeat back what was said.
And as the receiver of a message, your pride or ego may get in the way of seeking confirmation.
Confirming a message shouldn’t be seen as putting the other person in an imposition, because the cost of taking the wrong action after a message is way higher than the cost of repeating a message back.
Or put another way, what are you gaining with your conversations when the message isn’t confirmed?
