It’s amazing how much weight we can place on compliments we receive (or don’t receive).
Compliments have the power to offend and the power to delight.
We can crave compliments from some people, while compliments from others completely miss the mark.
Indeed, you can receive the same compliment from two people and apply completely opposite meanings to what is said.
But when you see a compliment for what it really is, you start to wonder about the significance you place on them.
A compliment is simply someone telling you that your attributes or behaviours align with their view of the world.
We have no control over how other people live their lives, or what they think is important or unimportant.
But we do have control over the significance we give to their compliments.
How much of your self-worth is derived from the opinions of others?
