This is an expression that Bec and I use a lot.
It’s amazing how much our expectations shape our enjoyment of reality.
If we go into a new experience with no expectations, there’s a good chance we’ll enjoy ourselves (or at least not come away disappointed).
When we are surprised that an experience missed the mark, it’s helpful to reflect on the expectations we had set going into it (either consciously or subconsciously).
And perhaps the best feeling is to have expectations about something, and then those expectations are surpassed.
This isn’t a hard-and-fast rule to apply to your life. It’s simply a helpful reflection to consider the source of your delight or disappointment.
