The second reaction

Problems are a constant in life, so it’s vital that we can be as effective as possible in responding to them when they arise.

One of the biggest mistakes we can make is compounding our reactions.

When something goes wrong, it’s natural to react. But we must contain this initial reaction, otherwise we will introduce new problems. Left unchecked, this compounding can make life a whole lot harder, very quickly.

Take for instance, someone approaches you with a complaint and they’re upset. If you respond in a similar manner, it’s unlikely that they’ll get less upset. You may be able to resolve their complaint, but this second reaction will stick with the both of you, and it will go on to negatively affect your behaviours and decisions.

Do all you can to prevent your first reaction becoming another, otherwise you’re choosing to make things worse.
