When you’re teaching someone to ride a bike, you don’t tell them what to do and then let them go. You stay with them until they get their balance, and gradually they’ll get the hang of it to try it themselves.
The same goes with helping someone understand a new task or assignment.
We shouldn’t expect someone to fully understand a new task in one go. But how many times have you left someone with a new task and were surprised by their performance?
You need to commit the time to staying with them until they are confident about what’s required. The more you can invest in the onboarding period, the better result you’ll produce for everyone involved.
