When someone reaches out to you with an engagement opportunity, it’s good to quickly understand if they’re genuinely interested.
You can do this by putting the onus back onto them to take the next step in the engagement.
When you receive their initial enquiry, respond that you’re interested in exploring this opportunity and you’d like to understand from them what’s involved.
If they respond with a considered approach, it’s a strong signal that further efforts with this enquiry may be worthwhile.
But many times I’ve found this simple request will go unreturned and the enquiry won’t go any further.
