Car horns

Bec and I once lived in the city on a main road.

The location was fantastic, though there was the constant sound of people blasting their car horns at each other.

This was becoming a source of irritation for us, and given we couldn’t change the external environment, we set out to change our association with the noise.

What we landed on was imagining that every time someone honked their car at another they were really meaning to say “I love you!”.

We found this was extremely effective at reconditioning our response to this cue, and even though we’ve moved on from this apartment we will still say “I love you!” whenever we hear a car horn.
