When a habit isn’t serving you

My deadline to send these blogs every morning is 7:30am.

For many months, my habit has been waking up early to write the blog for that day, and I usually finish it with time to spare.

I thought this habit was serving me because I was consistently and easily getting a blog done.

But a few disrupted nights from Amelie has made me question how well this habit is serving me.

Each blog takes a different time to write. Yet regardless if it takes a short while or a long while, I’ve realised that I’m not starting the rest of my day until after 7:30am (even though the blog is scheduled to send automatically).

This means I’m preventing myself from doing other things to start my day (or put another way, if I finish a blog quickly, what am I really doing until 7:30am?…)

So when you discover that a habit isn’t serving you, either break the current habit or start a new one.

I am happy to say that today’s blog is coming to you from the night before. And depending on how well Amelie sleeps, I’m looking forward to starting my morning differently.
