Romantic movies have biased our expectations of finding love, as many give the impression that connections are serendipitous: brushing hands as you both reach for the same book at the library, sheltering from a sunshower, embarking on a quest to return an item you found.
This has perhaps influenced the way we search for a connection. While we will put ourselves out there, we also like the thought of fate, and it’s interesting to consider how much we choose inaction over action as a result.
For example, it feels comfortable bingeing Netflix at night when you have a sense that a connection will happen when “the time is right”. But the irony is it won’t happen while watching Netflix. And how many nights has Netflix been the default?
I don’t know what the chances are of finding love. But I do know your chances are better than zero when you put yourself in a position for connections to happen.
