Here are some tips that helped me complete the Sally Push Up Challenge.
- Don’t cheat the decline. With pushups, it’s easy to let gravity do the work on the way down. And when you do, you’re missing out on half the workout. Maintain resistance across every rep.
- Pause at the bottom. It feels good to use momentum on the way down to push yourself up, but don’t expect to build muscle with this technique.
- Make your push up bars visible. I liked using push up bars rather than just my hands because it gives a wider range of motion. They’re also a visible reminder to do push ups. I would place the bars on the kitchen table, and whenever I walked past them I would do a set.
- Gradually raise your ceiling. My natural limit with push ups was 20. So whenever I did a set, I would target 20 push ups. I kept doing this, but I didn’t feel myself getting stronger. It was only when I started targeting 22 push ups that I passed the 20 limit.
- Don’t go all out. A big shoutout to Jayden who recommended this video when I started training.
