This has taken me a long time to learn (and I’m still learning it).
You can care deeply about the outcome of an initiative and still maintain an air of calm.
This runs counter to my natural default, where I tend to worry unduly about how things are progressing. If I wasn’t worrying, then surely I was being complacent and not driving the best outcomes?
My perspective has shifted through trialling responding with calm and worry to similar situations.
It was unnerving to remain calm during a problem and reach the same outcome as when I worried, because even though I took action, it felt like I wasn’t doing all that I could.
But what actually happens is that when I worry, I add a lot of unnecessary energy to the mix, and this energy could be used in much more effective ways.
So if I’m reaching the same outcome with two different approaches, then how is being calm more complacent than being worried?
