Reading between the company lines

I worked with a client this year who applied for a job and was then asked by the CEO of the company for a meeting.

They weren’t sure what it meant.

I explained that senior executives of companies would not give their time to endeavours that weren’t highly valuable. So if the CEO was taking a personal interest in your application, it meant that you were worth meeting with (and you could mean bigger things for their company than you may appreciate).

This helped transform their perspective of the meeting from a casual chat to a major deal, and it went really well.

If someone with authority is meeting with you, they’re not likely doing so out of the goodness of their heart – it’s because they see something in you which they really want.
