Yesterday’s Opinion Dominion question was:
Is your work like FAMILY?
16% YES.
84% NO.
Work can absolutely be supportive, caring and meaningful, but calling it “family” creates a false sense of permanence and loyalty that doesn’t match the reality.
You don’t restructure your family.
You don’t fire your brother-in-law for missing a KPI.
That said, I want to acknowledge the 16% who voted YES.
I’ve coached many professionals who genuinely feel that deep connection to their team.
They care, they show up and they treat their colleagues like loved ones. That level of commitment should be recognised, especially by leaders, because it comes with emotional weight and real vulnerability.
Work is personal, but that doesn’t mean we should blur the lines.
Respect the relationships, but keep the boundaries clear.
