You may consider that anger is uncontrollable. While we may regret what we say or do while angry, it’s so easy to be caught up in this emotion that we tend to rationalise away our actions.
But what if you saw anger as a choice?
This question may sit uncomfortably with you. But let me give you a scenario.
You’re in a heated argument with someone. Both of you have your voices raised and are talking over the other.
And then your phone rings and you need to take the call.
Do you use the same tone for the person on the other end? And then when you finish the call, do you then return to the argument with a raised voice?
This scenario is considered in a wonderful book called The courage to be disliked.
Anger is a tool that is taken out when needed. We all choose to use anger. So choose carefully.
