Give advice to yourself

People are pretty good at giving advice to others. But we’re not usually good at giving advice to ourselves.

When someone comes to you for guidance, we are happy to share our perspective. That’s because we can see things more objectively, and we can freely share our opinion because we’re not the ones who have the problem.

But when we are reflecting on our own problems, it can be tricky to, let’s say, “take our own medicine”. But if our advice is useful to others, shouldn’t our advice be useful to ourselves? The trick then is to make ourselves an objective party.

So whenever Bec and I come to each other when we’re reflecting on a personal problem, we like to ask:

What if you came to yourself for advice? What would you say?

Try it out. You’ll be surprised by the results.
