A moment of indecision

When people decide to make a change, they are choosing the path of resistance. Past behaviours are hard to shake, and very appealing to fall back on when challenged.

But it’s helpful to appreciate that challenges are simply moments of indecision – difficult moments, granted, but moments nonetheless.

It’s helpful to appreciate then that resistance is quick to rise AND quick to fall. It’s not neverending. You are presented with a challenge, and in the moment of indecision you choose to stay the path or to succumb to past behaviours. You are not destined for a life of purgatory where you are constantly fighting for change.

Therefore, if you can stay strong when presented with challenges, it’s remarkable how quickly the desire to fallback on past behaviour will subside. And overtime, this process will get easier, particularly if you quickly change your state and your environment to promote the behaviour you’re wanting to embody.

It also comes with a bonus – as soon as you pass the moment of indecision, you’ll feel a great level of satisfaction from the little victory.
