I purchased my first business when I was 31. I then launched Quarter Life Academy to help others in their 20s and 30s with similar ambitions understand how this is possible.
Whenever someone reaches out with an interest in having their own business, I ask them a key question.
“Where do you see yourself in 5 years?”
For many, this question is quite confronting.
While they are highly motivated to go into business, they haven’t fully appreciated the long-term commitment they would be making.
They see having a business as a short-term proposition, where they intend to flip it after a couple of years, or they’ll get it to a point where it will provide passive income and they don’t need to work.
I’m not saying this isn’t possible.
But if this is your motivation for going into business, I’ll make sure to fully explore with you what it would mean if this decision doesn’t play out as you envision before making a commitment.
