Yesterday’s Opinion Dominion was clear:
88% said career breaks are judged unfairly.
Only 13% said fairly.
I went with FAIRLY, and here’s why from my experience as a career coach.
The job seeker often assumes it’s a red flag.
But the person doing the hiring usually sees it in context.
I’ve worked with both sides, and the gap is real.
Job seekers worry they’ll be judged.
Hiring managers just want to understand the story.
The stigma often comes from within.
Because what’s the flip slide if career breaks are universally judged unfairly?
Does that mean the only way you can advance is to have a perfect resume?
The longer you go in your career, the more life gets in the way.
At a certain stage, everyone will have a career break.
So FWIW, I don’t feel like career breaks need to be explained away.
They just need to be explained.
