Yesterday’s Opinion Dominion asked:

Are job cuts based on PERFORMANCE or TENURE?

58% said Performance

42% said Tenure

I went with Tenure.

On balance I’m not sure you can say it’s a merit-based decision.

I’ve found that when companies make cuts, it often swings to the extremes.

Those that have just joined or those that have been around the longest tend to be shown the door.

I guess the important question to ask in these situations is:

Will my manager fight to keep me?
