A bottleneck is the point in a system that is getting more work than it can process, which in turn is significantly decreasing the performance of the overall system.
If you keep missing scheduled appointments…
Or if you keep pushing back deadlines…
Or if you keep saying yes but then saying sorry…
Then you are the bottleneck.
And while you are pushing to get things done, you may not be fully aware of how your team or people in your life are being impacted.
To reduce a bottleneck, at least in the short term, the workflow needs to be redirected.
Reduce the amount that’s on your plate, and even more importantly, stop yourself from taking on more.
Then when the workflow starts to improve, take the time to consider how you can better manage your capacity going forward.
