Basis of your assumption

We’d find it silly to say that we value our opinion above all others.

But it’s amazing how many of our assumptions are solely determined by ourselves.

It’s not like we do this intentionally, yet we make up our own mind without seeking external feedback all the time.

Just this week I had the following coaching exchanges with QLA:

I assumed my side hustle wasn’t worth anything to sell.

It might not be, but why not approach a few business brokers and get their opinions?

I assumed I didn’t have enough experience for a recruiter to want to help me.

You might not, but why not approach a few recruiters and see what they think?

I assumed the partners have already determined their strategy for the next financial year.

They might have, but why not have a conversation with them about the opportunities you’re seeing for the firm?

The reason you must understand the basis of your assumptions is that your assumptions are driving your behaviours.

And if you are the singular basis for an assumption, how is that serving you?
