Cancelling subscriptions

It’s a good habit to cancel paid subscriptions as soon as you activate them.

First, the subscription will remain active for the full cycle, which is usually a month. This means you’ll have enough time to use the subscription fully to then decide whether you need to keep using it.

Second, it breaks our default of ‘set and forget’. We’ve all been in a position where we’ve kept a subscription active for longer than we’d like. So rather than making that decision in the future, why not cancel when you’re handling the first payment? You can always reactivate the subscription later if you need it.

Third, many companies will offer a discount at the cancellation screen to encourage you to remain subscribed, which is great if you intend to continue with the subscription. When you’re at the cancellation window, look for a reason that says “it was too expensive” and you’ll usually be presented with a discount code or a reduced rate.
