Just like a dam, we all have a certain amount of capacity in our lives.
The higher the dam wall, the more the dam will hold. Likewise, the better our capabilities and systems around us, the more capacity we’ll have to do the things we want.
However, when a dam is at capacity and extra water is added, two things can happen.
One is that the excess will spill over the edge.
The other is that the dam wall will burst.
With life, I’ve found that when we’re at capacity we think that we can manage the excess so we take on more. But what ends up happening is that everything falls over around us.
How differently would you approach commitments if you assumed that your dam wall won’t hold if pushed beyond its limit?
