Capture First, Then Action

Here’s another gem from Getting Things Done.

When you’ve got a heap of tasks that need doing but don’t know where to start, get them all out of your head first. Don’t perform any actions until you have finished this brain dump.

The reason is because too often we will try to action things in the moment, which means we keep jumping thought to action, to thought, to action….

It’s far better to list everything down, and then work out the best way to proceed. Think of it like making dinner. It’s better to capture all the ingredients you need first and then prepare them, rather than finding and preparing one ingredient at a time.
