Collect useful information

When you want to lose weight, you may want to measure your progress by standing on the scales every day.

Unfortunately, this isn’t a useful measurement, even though it’s the place which will show the number you’re ultimately pushing for.

When you weigh yourself every day, you won’t see a noticeable difference, so this information isn’t helpful to guide your actions.

(And sometimes the number will be higher than the day before, which isn’t great for your motivation).

On the other hand, measuring your daily calories is extremely useful to guide your actions towards the result you really want.

So when you are working towards a goal, think carefully about which information you should collect to effectively assess your progress.
