Complaining takes energy

We all have a certain amount of energy every day, and how you apply this energy is up to you. Just be careful when you choose to spend energy on complaining.

When we complain, we are expressing our annoyance without necessarily needing a resolution. It doesn’t take much to shift the focus from yourself to others, which is perhaps why we are so prone to doing it. But complaining takes far more energy than we appreciate.

When we complain around others, it makes it hard for the conversation to build. It either becomes an echo chamber of negative energy (which can be draining), or it takes effort from others to shift the conversation to a solutions-focused mindset. And if we become known for complaining, it will take even more energy because others will expect future conversations to be difficult.

When we complain to ourselves, we are spending our valuable and limited energy choosing to feel annoyed but are left with nothing to show for it. And the danger is that we may not even realise we’re doing it because there is no one around to call us on this behaviour.

The next time you find yourself complaining, ask yourself if it’s a worthwhile use of your energy.
