When I first experienced a barber shaving my face with a cut throat razor, I was amazed by how smooth it was compared to regular shaving.
In fact, I was so excited by the result that I wanted to use a cut throat razor on myself.
So I went to a specialist shaving shop and browsed their collection of cut throat razors.
They were more expensive than I was expecting, but I was still keen to get one.
Before I did, a salesperson walked up and asked how I was going. I said I was keen to get a cut throat razor, and he responded by asking if I’ve ever used one before?
I hadn’t.
The salesperson then handed me the cheapest cut throat razor amidst the range.
“Try this disposable razor first, and if you like the experience come back for an upgrade”.
I was a little deflated with the down-sell, but took his advice, still envisioning an amazing shave.
The next day, I jump in front of the mirror to try my new shaving routine.
And I cut my face to pieces…
I couldn’t believe how much I bled. The blood just wouldn’t stop, and it was coming from everywhere.
I tried it again the next day (super tentatively), but still got the same result.
Needless to say, I went back to my original shaving routine.
But the salesperson’s kindness has always stayed with me. He didn’t need to change my buying decision. It resulted in him receiving a lower sale, and I never returned for that upgrade.
Though it was special to be sold what I really needed.
