What do you say when people ask what you do?
Maybe you share your profession? Or your title? Or the place you work?
How quickly do you then move on from this question?
And in moving on, do you downplay what you said because you feel it’s not relevant or the other person can’t relate?
Here’s the thing though.
What you do is incredibly valuable.
And the question doesn’t just relate to what you do for work.
You have passions and interests and skills and experiences.
When you downplay what you do, you’re taking away the chance for your value to be shared.
The other person may be in real need of your value, or may know of someone who needs what you do.
So when you’re asked what you do in polite conversation, declare it with conviction and then make sure the other person understands how you can enhance their world.
