Don’t give an out

I’ve shared before that one of my main strengths is HARMONY.

This is where I strive for consensus and turn conflict into common ground.

The downside to this strength is being overly accommodating.

I want to come across as easy and agreeable to work with, because the most important thing to me is moving forward together.

Unfortunately, this has meant that whenever I make a suggestion (like meeting times for example), I would give a window that works for me and also a window that doesn’t work for me (but I could if I had to).

This was unprompted, mind you.

I’ve since changed my approach and taken this second option off the table at the start.

Now, I only state the window that works best for me, and more often than not the other person happily accepts.

Ultimately, I was negotiating against myself.

So I took away the out.
