“Avatar: The Last Airbender” was a long running cartoon on Nickelodeon in the 2000s, which has become popular again with modern audiences through Netflix.
The show was groundbreaking for many reasons. But for me, one of its most impressive techniques was being able to communicate everything you needed to know about the cartoon in its opening sequence. You could start watching from any episode in the series, and the opening sequence would tell you everything about the world, the characters in it, and why you should watch:
Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years passed and my brother and I discovered the new Avatar, an airbender named Aang. And although his airbending skills are great, he has a lot to learn before he’s ready to save anyone. But I believe Aang can save the world.
I’ve written before about the wisdom in cartoons. This particular post is designed to demonstrate the power of effective messaging, and it is something I try to channel with every post and email.
How well can you share with others necessary information, the reason for doing so and also capture their interest to take action?
