Experience as a Director

The more you progress in your career, the more you will appreciate how decisions are made at an organisational level.

Organisations are legal entities in their own right, and the Directors of an organisation make decisions on behalf of this legal entity.

Because of this, it’s really important that the Directors adhere to the organisation’s governing documents and that all decisions are recorded properly.

The great news is you can gain experience as a Director early in your career by volunteering at community clubs and associations, as these entities will likely have Board positions which you can nominate for.

I believe that serving as a Secretary or Treasurer is particularly valuable because they’re predominantly responsible for the ongoing workings of an organisation. But regardless of the position, any form of Board service will help your career prospects.
