Fatal flaws

Every one of us has something that we’re not great at, and if we are asked to identify our flaws we’d be pretty good at picking them.

So why is it that we can find ourselves in positions that promote this fatal flaw?

You may be a passionate creative and choose to study law because you want to make an impact on those around you. But when you graduate you find yourself spending more time on procedural work and gradually lose your passion.

Or you are great at numbers and technically skilled at your job, but not great on the people-front. But you get promoted based on your performance, and start struggling in your role as leader of a team.

Or you may love delivering a particular service and decide to open your own business to get more of the upside. But you fail to appreciate that most of your time will be spent running the business rather than delivering the service you’re great at.

You can choose to work on your fatal flaws or choose to avoid them. Just make sure you keep them front of mind when you’re considering the path forward.
