If you’re studying at uni and yet to enter the workforce, you may think your next step is a graduate program or an internship. But you have another option (several, in fact).
Graduate programs and internships are effective entry points to a chosen profession because they’re structured to account for a graduate’s relative inexperience. However, this structure can create a perception that your progression is linear.
Once you enter the workforce, you quickly realise that your choices are non-linear. How you choose to work and where you choose to go can be completely up to you.
So don’t feel like you need to have a graduate position secured before you finish university. And don’t feel like you can only apply for roles that have the word “graduate” in the title.
It’s much better to be clear on the type of role you’d love or the organisation that you want to work for. Then you can explore as many opportunities as possible that align with your core desires.
