To earn your manager’s trust and respect, you must understand their values underlying trust and respect, rather than assuming they hold your values that underlie trust and respect.
You can do this by asking directly what matters to them, but also observing their behaviours in certain situations (actions will always speak louder than words).
It’s always helpful to appreciate that even though we can hold the same values, our perspectives and applications of these values will be different.
But it’s important to stress that you shouldn’t compromise your own values to gain the trust and respect of your manager.
