Through coaching many professionals in their 20s & 30s to advance their careers, I’ve found that people typical approach decisions from two ways:
- Identify the opportunities you have that are available, and position yourself accordingly.
- Understand what you want to achieve, and make opportunities happen.
Both methods are appropriate at different times.
For example, when you are in a structured environment, there may only be certain opportunities to advance.
But the same structured environment may allow for new roles and projects to be created based on the value you can deliver.
