Many people reach out to QLA because they want to be more deliberate with their career.
For example, if asked “How did you get to where you are now?”, they may respond with some version of “I found myself here”.
People can identify the steps that they’ve taken to get to their current role, and they can appreciate how they chose to take each step.
Yet there’s a sense that these decisions weren’t really their own.
They acted on opportunities offered by someone else which at the time sounded pretty good. Or they only changed jobs when the need arose.
When they have this realisation, it can come with a sense of disappointment or regret about decisions past. So it’s really important to first be kind to yourself. There is no “right” or “wrong” way to approach your career, and even though you may want something different today, that shouldn’t de-value the experiences you’ve had.
You have simply found yourself at a juncture where you are clearer on what you want (or don’t want). And you are choosing to be more proactive with this next step you want to take.
