We’re all familiar with the pull of our mobile phones and its impact on our productivity.
But if you’re struggling with this distraction, the remedy doesn’t need to be drastic.
Just consider how much interrupted time you really need to complete a decent task.
For me, an hour is a good amount of time to make worthwhile progress.
I could push myself for longer, but if I’m being realistic I’d say an hour is a manageable workload before taking a break.
So what do I gain from checking my phone during the hour rather than at the end of the hour?
Nothing, really.
And how hard is it to go for an hour without checking my phone?
It’s definitely doable.
So I’m not talking about going for a whole day without your phone, or going to other extremes.
I’m saying when you’re mindful of your natural working rhythm, you can slightly shift your distractions around it rather than within it.
