Is it better to be LIKED or RESPECTED at work?

Yesterday’s Opinion Dominion asked:

Is it better to be LIKED or RESPECTED at work?

93% said Respected

7% said Liked

I was in the 7%.

Not because I think respect doesn’t matter.

On a personal level, I’ve found that work feels more rewarding when the relationships are likeable.

When people actually enjoy working with you, it makes everything flow more easily.

It was great to receive this perspective from the Respected side:

“You don’t have to like me or agree with me at work. But if you respect me, we can still work together and achieve the best outcome. Liking me without respecting me won’t achieve anything.”

I get that too.

Ideally, you’d have both, but the question forced a choice.
