Is it OK for companies to permit AI use without an AI policy?

Yesterday’s Opinion Dominion asked:

Is it OK for companies to permit AI use without an AI policy?

86% said NO

14% said YES.

I was with the majority here.

Even though there’s still a lot we don’t know about how AI will evolve, most professionals just want some basic guidelines from their employers.

It’s helpful to know what’s encouraged, what’s off-limits and how your company will back you if something goes sideways.

One comment put it perfectly:

“At the basic level, they can put something like ‘It’s OK to use AI, but don’t put private, company or client data into public systems.'”

That alone would do a lot to empower your employees and better protect the company.

And here’s the irony I didn’t appreciate until it was raised:

You could literally ask ChatGPT to write an AI policy for its use.

No one’s got all the answers when it comes to AI.

But you must give people something to work with.
