It’s your job

“Because it’s your job” isn’t a great reason for someone to do something.

For starters, the “something” may be just one thing out of lots of things involved with a role. If the “something” is prioritised, where does the “it’s your job” reasoning lie with all those other things that would need to be deferred?

And even if the “something” should have been prioritised, this doesn’t mean the person isn’t motivated to do it. Saying “it’s your job” ignores all the factors that may be preventing the “something” from being done.

And if the person is ultimately unmotivated to do their job, saying “it’s your job” is unlikely to inspire them to take the necessary action.
