I have a gripe with the saying: “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.”
It suggests that people will ignore opportunities presented to them, but I believe there’s a deeper truth.
The real value lies in simply knowing where the “pools” of opportunity are.
In my years of career coaching, I’ve learned that awareness is key. Once you’ve identified your pools of career opportunities, you gain the confidence to:
- Return to them when you’re ready.
- Walk away from the ones that won’t serve you.
My clients often tease me about my analogies, but here’s what I want you to take away.
Your career flourishes when you expand your awareness of what’s possible, and you remain in control of which opportunities to pursue.
What “pools” of opportunity do you see in your career right now?
