Leaving my dream job

I achieved my dream of working for a fund manager.

But I chose to quit. Here’s why.

For the time I was with the firm, I felt like I was exactly where I was meant to be.

I’d landed the role I’d worked so hard for and I was surrounded by brilliant people that inspired me.

I absolutely loved it.

Investing gave me exposure to a huge range of businesses and industries, which kept things interesting.

But over time, I started to notice something.

I was learning to think in a certain way, and I was refining this year after year.

This was important to get better and better at investing.

But it also meant I could see how the next 30 years would play out.

While this was an amazing path for some, I felt like it wasn’t for me.

After analysing and investing in so many businesses, I was increasingly eager to run my own.

So I left, and I closed the chapter on a dream that I held since High School.

I didn’t leave because I fell out of love with what I did.

I wanted to leave before that happened.

Just because you achieve your dream, doesn’t mean you have to keep doing it.
