When something crummy happens to you, it’s hard to let it go.
Just look at Elsa from Frozen.
(I’ve been watching lots of Disney with 2 kids under 3 … )
She’s iconic for blasting out the Let It Go ballad while building an ice castle out of thin air.
Such a powerful song.
Such a major statement!
Such global adoration!!!
She hits the high note, twirls around and slams the doors shut behind her.
Only her sister appears in the next scene …
She tells Elsa she’s frozen everything and needs to fix it.
And Elsa does NOT respond like she’s let it go.
Instead, she blasts ice magic through her sister’s heart and nearly… well… (I won’t spoil the ending if you haven’t seen it).
My point is this.
It’s one thing to know you should let it go.
But it’s an entirely different thing to ACTUALLY let it go with grace and humility.
Here’s my take.
Don’t try to let it go.
If you’re wronged, or slighted, or betrayed, then feel it.
Process it.
And then work out what you’ll do with it.
Because that feeling is hard to let go of.
You can harness it and respond better.
Or dwell on it and progressively get bitter.
By all means, try to let it go.
Just don’t grow more frustrated if you can’t shake it (yet).
