One of my favourite quotes is attributed to Oren Harari: The electric light did not come from the continuous improvement of candles.
I have an analytical and operational background, which means I’m good at strategically thinking about a desired outcome, drawing on proven methods to achieve it and then continuously improving.
But I’m very aware that this approach does not lend itself well to new ways of thinking.
This quote really impacted me when I first saw it, but it didn’t mean I needed to stop operating in the way I’m good at. It just serves as a great appreciation that there are other ways of doing things that create big leaps forward, and also reminds me to push my own boundaries with how I operate.
