When working through a problem, we can run into trouble when we consider the macro alongside the micro.
Macro is the bigger picture. It’s considering the overall strategy that you’re trying to achieve and identifying the different options that may be available.
Micro is the details. It’s thinking about executing the strategy and exploring an option to consider its viability.
The key is being deliberate about going between the macro and the micro.
When you’re focused on strategy and a minor detail is raised about one option, first determine if it’s worth diving down that rabbit hole or you might lose sight of the overall objective.
Likewise, when you choose a plan but it’s not working as intended, make sure you understand if it’s being executed correctly before jumping back to the macro and re-strategising.
