It’s better to make a full ask than a partial ask.
A full ask is bold.
A full ask gives clarity.
A full ask communicates respectfully.
Unfortunately, most people don’t OWN what they really want.
Some fear rejection.
Some lack confidence.
Some don’t think it’s feasible.
So they make a partial ask.
They hope it will be better received, and that it might lead to what they actually want.
Except it’s MUCH easier to state what you actually want and discuss what’s possible, than getting what you DON’T want and asking for more.
Always remember, the asker sets the anchor.
So start strong!
Want to be a Managing Director?
Ask for it! Don’t just say you’re open to advancement.
Want a $20,000 pay rise?
Ask for it! Don’t start at $5,000.
Want to leave work at 4pm to pick up your kids?
Ask for it! Don’t just wonder about flexible work arrangements.
So.
What do you want in your career?
