Do you know when your company culture is really revealed?
Mass layoffs.
Layoffs in any capacity are horrible.
Any person that is suddenly asked to leave a company should be supported and respected as much as possible.
And it is critical that this personal touch scales proportionally with the number of layoffs.
Unfortunately, it often doesn’t.
A variety of reasons are given for why they don’t.
But pretty much all of them are cop-outs.
When you are dealing with team members that are loyal and have worked hard for the company, it is critical that the company honours their departure.
Professionals are being stripped of their identities.
Their egos are taking big hits.
And many are fearful of what’s next for them.
Their departure should never be a generic exit message or company-wide announcement.
Because that just sucks for the people that are leaving.
And for those that stay?
They get a front-row seat to how they will be treated in the future.
So how do you make layoffs more supportive?
Well, every company takes great care and attention with their onboarding process.
This should be the bare minimum standard with their offboarding process.
