Meetings are typically set around a particular task, and so we prepare ourselves with a task mindset.
We show up to the meeting to share information, or raise a problem, or consider solutions.
But people have an emotional response with every engagement, regardless of how professional the setting is. And the emotional dynamic will be different in every meeting you have.
So to have the most effective meetings, you need to focus on the people in the meetings.
Do you want them to feel confident? Or understood? Or motivated?
Do you need to show up with empathy? Or energy? Or clarity?
The next time you prepare for a meeting, don’t just consider what you want people to do or share. Consider how you want them to feel.
