When you water down what you ask for, no one wins.
But here’s why this happens all the time.
You figure out what you want.
You build up the courage to ask for it.
Then, right before you do, you hesitate.
You soften your ask.
You walk back what you really want.
You’re worried you’ll sound too direct.
Or that you’re asking for too much.
Or maybe it’s an unreasonable ask.
So you ask for SOME of what you want.
And the result?
You fail to make your true intentions known.
People then try to help you fulfil your ask.
But they won’t realise they’re helping in ways you don’t want.
And do you know the sad thing?
You may actually get what you ask for.
But you get something you don’t really want.
Never compromise your ask.
If it’s something you care about, say it straight.
Everyone is better off when you make your true intentions known.
And if you ask and don’t get what you want, that’s ok.
You’ve started down a path which could lead to the best result.
